Website Guide - Site Construction |
|
|
Are there different ways to construct a website and what are they?
Website Construction
- There are 3 primary ways to construct a website
- Non-framed construction
- Framed construction
- Flash construction
Non-Framed Construction
- This is the most popular & widely used option worldwide
- Although linked to each other, every page is independent of the others
- Thus each page is capable of standing on its own
- Enables users to bookmark specific pages & return to them later, but
- It means that your important home page may be completely bypassed
- Allegedly best for search engines and is an SEO recommendation
- When page is scrolled, header & menus scroll up out of view
- Page loading time may be slower than a framed web page
Framed Construction
- Used to be very popular, particularly with large corporations
- Less popular because of alleged problems with search engines, but
- Despite this, 50% of Top 10 websites used to be "framed" sites
- If frames constructed correctly, there is no problem
- Main Advantages:
- When page is scrolled, header, logo & menu stay in place
- This aids identity & branding as logo, etc, always visible
- Menu always visible ensures that site visitors don't get lost
- Optimised correctly, can actually enhance SE positioning
- Individual pages load more quickly than non-framed site
- Some argue that framed site looks more professional
Flash Construction
- 100% Flash sites look trendy, modern and cool if done correctly
- Unfortunately, they are like a sealed container to search engines
- SEs cannot see inside a Flash site so don't know what it contains
- This makes it impossible for SEs to rank & position a Flash site
- May experience slightly longer page delays whilst Flash loads
- Web users must have latest Flash player installed on browser
- Thus total Flash is not recommended for a business website
