 | What is a Secure Server and do I need one? | |
|
A Secure Server is a special secure encryption facility which is used to process highly sensitive personal and credit card information from online customers, ensuring the maximum possible privacy and security of the data provided. It is an absolutely essential ingredient of online trading, particularly if customers are expected to pay online using credit cards.
Whilst a Secure Server facility is likely to be included as an integral part of a Bureau or Transaction Service contract, businesses who are trading under Merchant Status will normally need to specifically request Secure Server Access from their Web Hosting provider. An additional fee is usually charged for this facility.
Note that Secure Servers are normally located on a completely different server than the one where the website is located.
