The FAQ You Requested...
How many Search Engines are there and how do I get them to list my website?
There are thousands of Search Engines and they are split into 3 main groups:
- Major Search Engines - about 15 important ones worldwide, although most of them also have country-specific subsidiaries, eg, google.co.uk, yahoo.co.uk and excite.co.uk.
- Minor Search Engines - numbered in their thousands. Shouldn't be dismissed as a source of Website traffic as they can prove very useful, and they are often searched by the Major's in their quest for suitable Websites.
- Free For All Sites - FFAs - also numbered in their thousands. Not high traffic generators but can be a source of Major SE traffic as in 2 above, and is a means of getting your site linked around the world, which can have a bearing on how some Major SEs actually rank your importance. If you are linked to thousands of other websites - your website's address regularly appearing or being listed at different sites around the world, you are considered more important that a site that has few or no external links.
Please note however, whether completed manually or automatically, there is never, ever a guarantee that the Major Search Engines will actually list your Website. Listing is their privilege and their's alone. And, if you submit your site too frequently or within comparatively short periods of time, you could be considered a Spammer and may get your site barred for life. The automated software used by WebLink4u has built in controls to avoid this problem.
